A good friend and strong rider, Val, over at Bouledogue Tout Noir, will be conducting a Madison Clinic at the Northbrook Velodrome just outside of Chicago.
Here is all the info from the site, quoted just for you.
If you want to see everything in all of its proper glory, here is the link, right here.
“The Madison is an event in track racing named after Madison Square Garden in New York. Teams compete, but only one rider needs to be racing at any stage. Periodically, the teams change riders by “tagging” their teammates, usually performing slingshot action with linked hands to transfer as much of their momentum as possible to the racing rider, though a teammate may also be propelled into the race by a push of the rider’s racing shorts. The non-racing teammate then moves to the top of the circular banked track to recover before the next stint.” –OBRA
Josh and I (Val) will be leading a Madison Clinic (permit pending) on May 9th at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome in Northbrook, IL. The clinic will start at 10AM and run until around 2PM. Registration is from 9-10AM and is $10. We’re going to cover the basics of Madison racing, such as exchanges, timing of exchanges, how to exchange in traffic (without freaking out!) and what to do on relief. We’ll intersperse the instruction with drills and finish off the day with race simulations. We want everyone to walk away feeling confident and excited to take part in the only USAC sanctioned event that allows hand holding.
A few other notes:
Track bikes and helmets are required. Alberto’s in Highland Park (847-432-0015), Turin in Evanston (847-864-7660) and George Garner Cyclery in Northbrook (847-272-2100) all have track bikes that can be rented ahead of time.
We ask that everyone who is participating in the clinic is a USAC annual license holder and has ridden a track bike before.
We will have access to the chalet, so you don’t have to worry about changing in the Drop Zone.
Why are we having a Madison Clinic?
Well after traveling a lot last year, seeing how popular Madisons have become again, having a blast racing in multiple Madisons, we wanted to give racers in the Chicago area a chance to get in on the fun. To that end, we’ve planned 3 Madison nights throughout the 2010 Thursday night season. These nights will feature Madisons for the Cat 1/2 Men, Cat 3/4 Men and a combined Women’s field. We will also be having both a Men’s and Women’s Madison at the State Championships on August 21-22. In addition to this clinic, there will be a number of Monday/Tuesday clinics that feature Madison training.
Please see attached flyer.

In the event of rain … (check here for updates)
Torrential rain or constant drippy rain that keeps the track wet, we will cancel the clinic.
If it’s just sprinkling/raining in the morning and clears up midday, we’ll still have the clinic.
If it looks like rain and only drips a little now and then, we’ll still have the clinic.
